A menagerie of fun

Jeofry Jones loved everything about nature. He kept a menagerie of animals and would invite children and friends to tour his pond property. He had an old farmhouse that faced the lake, and right outside the screened porch, he built a large dove aviary—so he could, as he put it,  “get cooing whenever he wanted.”  Papa also had a large collection of geese and mallards that never failed to come at his call. Birds, bunnies, goats, horses, cows, he had a little of everything on the property.

He loved to entertain.

When Papa knew a group of kids was visiting, he’d catch all the snakes he could find, usually three or four, and put them in a green dumpster with a little platform in front so the kids could look at them from a safe distance. Afterward, he’d release them again—except for the time the king snake had a snack. That one didn’t get released.

No farm animals on the property currently, but who knows, maybe we’ll add a few goats in the future.
